2016 - Scotland, Edinburgh

July 2016. North Florida Scouts traveled to Edinburgh, Scotland to attend the 35th International Scottish Jamborette in Blair Atholl. We explored Edinburgh's Royal Mile and hiked to mountains near Edinburgh.

Krakow is cited as one of Europe's most beautiful cities, its extensive cultural heritage across the epochs of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture includes the Wawel Cathedral and the Royal Castle on the banks of the Vistula river, the St. Mary's Basilica and the largest medieval market square in Europe. — in Kraków, Poland.

Cracovia es citada como una de las ciudades más bellas de Europa, su extenso patrimonio cultural a través de las épocas de la arquitectura gótica, renacentista y barroco incluye la Catedral de Wawel y el palacio real a orillas del río Vístula, Basílica de Santa María y la Plaza del mercado medieval más grande de Europa.

La beatificación y canonización de santa Faustina contribuyeron mucho al desarrollo de este santuario, también influyeron las peregrinaciones papales. Karol Wojtyla (St Juan pablo II) desempeñó un papel muy importante en esta obra, como sacerdote y obispo de la Diócesis de Cracovia, y como Papa; pero también la labor del arzobispo de Cracovia, el cardenal Franciszek Macharski, fue importante, al crear una Fundación destinada a llevar a cabo la construcción de la Basílica de la Divina Misericordia y los edificios contiguos para albergar a los peregrinos. El 17 de agosto de 2002, el Papa Juan Pablo II consagró la nueva basílica, lugar en el que consagró al mundo entero a la Divina Misericordia.

2016 - Germany, Berlin - Charlottenburg Palace

Charlottenburg Palace. Berlin, Germany

Charlottenburg Palace is the largest palace in Berlin,Germany. It is located in the Charlottenburg district. The palace was built at the end of the 17th century and was greatly expanded during the 18th century. It includes much exotic internal decoration in baroque and rococo styles. A large formal garden surrounded by woodland was added behind the palace, including a belvedere, a mausoleum, a theater and a pavilion. During the Second World War, the palace was badly damaged but has since been reconstructed. 

Palacio de Charlottenburg es el Palacio más grande de Berlín, Alemania. Se encuentra en el distrito de Charlottenburg. El Palacio fue construido a finales del siglo XVII y fue expandido durante el siglo XVIII. Incluye una exótica decoración interna en los estilos barrocos y rococós. Un gran jardín formal rodeado por bosques se añadió detrás del Palacio, incluyendo un mirador, un mausoleo, un teatro y un pabellón. Durante la segunda guerra mundial, el Palacio fue gravemente dañado pero desde entonces ha sido reconstruido.

2016 - Poland - Exploring Auschwitz Concentration Camp,




Summer 2016. After visiting Krakow, we took a train to Oświęcim to visit Auschwitz Concentration Camp. Here are some of the photos. Some of them are in black and white as we found out that was the color of the Holocaust. Everything was grey.

Global Learning Adventures At Sea - BREXIT Referendum



June 2016. Baltic Sea Cruise aboard Navigator of the Seas. We visited Southampton, UK, Oslo, Norway, Copenhagen, Denmark, Tallinn, Estonia, St Petersburg, Russia, Helsinki, Finland, and Bruges, Belgium. At sea we lived BREXIT Referendum Day where the UK decided to leave the European Union. Aboard we talked to UK and European citizens and discussed their reactions. When you watch this video, you can see what happened in the UK after this historic day.

We also use this clip to summarize our 40 years of traveling, 50 countries visited, and 12 cruises so far. We emphasize the importance of traveling, learning about cultures, politics, history, and economics, and living historic events like this one.

The Branderburg Gate, Berlin.

The Branderburg Gate, an 18th century triumphal arch that has become one of the most recognizable landmarks in Europe, has played witness to some of the most significant moments in modern history.

The Berlin Wall

The Berlin Wall was a barrier constructed by the German Democratic Republic that divided Berlin (by land) in West Berlin and East Berlin from 1961 to 1989. Its demolition officially began on 13 June 1990 and was completed in 1992.

The Fernsehturm (Berlin TV Tower) is a television tower in central Berlin, Germany. The tower was constructed between 1965 and 1969 by the administration of the German Democratic Republic (GDR). With its height of 368 meters, it is the tallest structure in Germany.

La Fernsehturm (torre de televisión de Berlín) es una torre de televisión en Berlín central. La torre fue construida entre 1965 y 1969 por el gobierno de la República Democrática Alemana (RDA). Con su altura de 368 metros, es la estructura más alta en Alemania.

The Gendarmenmarkt is a square in Berlin and the site of an architectural ensemble including the Konzerthaus (concert hall) and the French and German Churches. In the centre of the square stands a monumental statue of Germany's poet Friedrich Schiller. The square was created by Johann Arnold Nering at the end of the seventeenth century.

El Gendarmenmarkt es una plaza en Berlín y en el sitio de un conjunto arquitectónico incluyendo el Konzerthaus (salón de conciertos) y las iglesias alemana y francesa.
